90's CANNONDALE INSPIRED - ALL ROAD RACER

Thomas Callahan

I’ve always loved the clean lines of the Cannondale track bikes. The way the aluminum welds were smoothed down into what looked like a single, seamless form really nailed that minimal aesthetic. They felt special—something that would catch your eye the same way a rare sports car or an old Land Cruiser might. You just knew you were looking at something different. Below is a great example of a C-Track build up on the Radavist Reader’s Rides

When Alex came to me about building a bike, he mentioned being inspired by an old blue Cannondale and wanting to carry that feeling into a new custom build.

I was pretty stoked. One of the best parts of building custom bikes is that every project comes with its own story—and this one resonated with me. I think it will with others, too.

This isn’t a technical recreation or a replica of that iconic ’90s bike. The goal was simply to tip the hat—to pull subtle cues from its form and function. At the end of the day, this is a modern road bike, not a vintage track build.

Three elements really stood out as guiding ideas. First, the minimalism of the Cannondale track bike—its clean, uninterrupted form. Second, that unmistakable metallic power blue. And third, its agresseive Geo.

The integrated bar and stem, along with the absence of exposed cables, naturally pushed the build toward that same clean, pared-down aesthetic. We tightened everything up on the geo to make it responsive with a emphasis on performance utilizing a full selection of Columbus Life steel alloy.

The paint isn’t an exact match of the “Glacial Blue”, but it was inspired at every step of the mixing process. We paired it with dark blue logos, a nod to the original Cannondale palette.

I’m really stoked on how it came out. It feels like a special build—and one that carries its inspiration in a quiet, intentional way.
